Now that we have switched to a mini-Walkthrough display we have encountered a lot of new challanges. For example, we have had to add signage to the display. The signage is nice and easy to read in the daylight, however after dark it becomes far more difficult. That means, we need light.
Sure we could just plant some spotlights and be done with it, but that feels like the easy way out. Who wants that. 😉
We love the look of old kerosene lanterns, and have collected a few over the years. John has converted some to electric using various techniques. And has even 3D ruined replacement globes like the one used on the exit sign.

This weekend while visiting a local antique shop we came across two more lamps in the smaller size we prefer. One of the lamps was actually manufactured as an electric lamp. John took a look at it and discovered that the wiring was very old and brittle. (and also someone used duct tape on the wiring) That didn’t stop him though. 30 minutes after it arrived home it was fully rewired and sporting a new LED bulb. Normally for ambiance we use flicker bulbs, even though this type of lamp wouldn’t flicker. This time we needed good bright light to read the sign by. So John used a 15watt equivalent picture frame bulb. The only problem was the LED bulb looked really modern in comparison to the lantern, and the haunt.
Rustoleum and Menards to the rescue. After the application of some glass frosting spray inside and outside of the globe, the light now hangs on our entrance sign and lets guests read the rules.
